Veterinary Technician

We are looking for a Veterinary Technician for our three-doctor animal practice in beautiful Hudson Valley, NY, adjacent to Berkshire County (MA) and Litchfield County (NY). We are open Monday – Friday and closed on the weekends and 6 major holidays during the year. Our typical work schedule consists of 30–40-hour work weeks, 10.5-hour days (8:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., 3-4 days per week). Our mission at MVP is to educate families to promote and effect the best quality of life possible for their pets. This can be accomplished through a holistic perspective with consideration of each pet’s physical, mental and emotional well-being.

The role of a Veterinary Technician is the primary support person to the veterinarian. They assist the veterinarian throughout the examination, diagnosis, and treatment phases. As support staff, they aide the veterinarian in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail. They have a deep compassion for animals and strive to provide the best service to pets and their people. They effectively leverage our veterinarians to provide Gold-Standard Medical Care to our patients. Along with the understanding and solid skills in veterinary technology, our veterinary technicians bring compassion and a positive attitude to work to enhance our current practice culture.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • The team member’s skills include (but are not limited to): patient care including diagnostic procedures and treatments
  • Triage and effectively obtaining patient history
  • Laboratory, surgical, radiology, and dental procedures
  • Anesthesia monitoring
  • Prescription preparation
  • Practice of proper practice of safety protocols and aseptic techniques
  • Understanding and ability to operate veterinary equipment, instruments
  • Familiar with pharmacy procedures
  • Strong ability to communicate medical knowledge and instruction.

Education/Licensing Requirements:

Requirements for Licensed Veterinary Technician:

2-year degree from AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program, and New York State license (or eligibility for licensing in NY). New grads encouraged or candidates currently enrolled in a VT program or are considering matriculation in a VT program may be considered and are encouraged to apply.

  • Customer Service: 1 year (Required)

Veterinary Receptionist

We are looking for a Veterinary Receptionist 30-40 hours per week (8 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.). Our mission at MVP is to educate and guide individuals and families to promote and effect the best quality of life possible for their pets. This can be accomplished through a holistic perspective with consideration of each pet’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The role of a Veterinary Receptionist (VR) is extremely important. Veterinary Receptionists are the face of Millerton Veterinary Practice. They have a deep compassion for animals and strive to provide the best service to pets and their people. The exceptional customer service that VR provides to our clients plays a key role in our mission to provide Gold-Standard Medical Care to our patients. Along with providing extraordinary customer service VRs possess above-average telephone and in-person communication skills, are familiar with sales, have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, understanding and solid skills in technology, and bring compassion and a positive attitude to work to enhance our current practice culture.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Possess and warm and welcoming attitude while continually greeting our clients throughout the day
  • Check-In incoming patients/Check-Out outgoing patients with ability to handle financial transactions and explaining medical treatment plans/costs in a variety of scenarios
  • Answering phone calls, including scheduling, answering general questions, processing prescription refills, receiving payments, and assisting in over-the-counter purchases such as pet food or pet-related items in a very busy atmosphere
  • Maintaining cleanliness withing assigned areas and the whole hospital
  • Recording daily transactions and discussions in the electronic medical record (EMR) as well as providing pertinent info from EMR to doctors, staff, and clients when appropriate
  • Assisting clients with financials (in all scenarios); going over medical plans (general) as directed by doctor
  • Any additional assigned tasks
  • Above average typing skills
